The Manual Lawn Mower

Every experienced gardener knows that a high quality lawn mower is essential for a well-maintained lawn. With many different kinds available, you need to make sure that you choose wisely.

The traditional approach of using a manual lawn mower can give that nice striped look and may be very cheap to run, as it doesn't require electricity or petrol.

However, unless you are extremely fit, a manual lawnmower can be hard work—especially if it is heavy.

Manual lawn mowers can lead to back injuries, not to mention blisters on the hands from gripping the handles too hard, to keep pushing the lawn mower forward.

Then there is the fact that if you have a very large area to mow or overgrown grass, forget the rest of the jobs you had lined up! You will be in your garden all day trying to fight the jungle that has taken over the well-kept garden you wished you still had.

In addition, when the grass becomes very long, mowers’ blades become blunt sooner, so the grass will keep getting chewed up around the blades until you spend more time clearing the blades than actually cutting the grass.

Then there is the cleaning, sharpening and oiling the blades, which are required so that the lawn mower does not become rusty.

Then there is cleaning the roller as well!

One part of the lawnmower you will get to know very well is the grass box. Depending on how large the grass box is, you will be having to empty that quite a few times during the course of the day.

Now you might just be lucky, and the grass box will not give you any hassle. However, there are some lawn mowers that operate better without the grass boxes; in the end, you may just have to gather all the grass by a garden rake.

If you don't mind the hard work involved, then the manual mower might be for you, but if you are saving up for a reason, you might want to invest in a swear box too, because by the end of the day your manual mower will test your patience to the limit.
